The role of horses in human development began thousands of years ago. The power of the horse has enabled us to wage wars, move people and goods, and produce food. They have inspired great art and literature. They are our companions in sport, and can heal our emotional and spiritual wounds. In my own life, horses have been a part of each major transition, whether painful or full of joy. Horses are in my heart.
My photographs are intended to inspire admiration of their beauty and power, awareness of their distinctive personalities, and recognition of our responsibility to protect them from harm, whether it’s in the wild, at the racetrack, in the show ring, or at the stable.
I spent decades working in public health on behalf of underserved communities. My commitment to protecting horses comes from a similar ethic. I have a certificate in Professional Photography from the University of California, San Diego. I continue to build my skills through participation in workshops with LA Center of Photography, Medium, Santa Fe Workshops, Southeast Center of Photography, and Tony Stromberg Workshops.
